FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 

Q. How can I register?

A. You can register any time online by going to either the Boys Registration or Girls Registration pages.  Open registration will take place at the KFL/Lacrosse fields on October 27th and November 3rd.  We will also be taking registration during the Reindeer Games hosted by HAKLAX at the KFL/Lacrosse fields.

Q. What is included in the registration fee?

A. Registration Fees include uniforms (game jersey and shorts, penie, and warm up jersey) helmet decals,  field fees, and an end of season tournament.

Q. Why is it so expensive compared to Baseball and Football?

A. The registration fee directly reflects the cost of uniforms, ref's and field maintenance expense. The main reason the cost is higher is because

the league is small, only 140 or so players. Baseball and football have a much higher number of athletes, this lowers costs. HAKLAX is only in

this 6^th year and growing.

Q. What equipment is required to play lacrosse?

A.  You will need to provide a helmet, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, cleats and a lacrosse stick.  Goalie sticks and D poles will be provided by the league.

Q.  How many teams are there?

A.  The boys division is comprised of three 4^th-6^th grade teams and two 7^th-8^th grade teams.  The girls division is comprised of one 6^th-8^th grade team and one 4^th-5^th grade instructional league.

Q. Where do the teams practice?

A.  The 4^th- 6^th grade boys practice at Riverwood, the 7^th-8^th grade boys practice at Creekwood and the Girls practice at the River Grove fields.

Q. How long is the HAKLAX season? 

A. The HAKLAX season starts on Jan 8th and runs through the end of April.

Q. Are their tryouts in lacrosse?

A. At the start of the season all the players for each division practice together and then the coaches draft their teams based on what they see during the practices.  Everybody makes a team even if you aren't able to attend the team practices.

Q. Where can I go for practice information?

A.   Once the season gets started you can go to either the team Mom or the website under the "In the news" section of the home page for practice information.

Q. Can practice cancellations be put on the website? 

A. Yes, if they are weather related we catch them as fast as we can and get them on the website and do an email. If it is for any other reason either

the coach will explain at practice, the team Mom will do an email or it will be put on the website.

Q. What is the website for 7th and 8th grade Division 1 and Division 2 teams?

A.  There is just one web site, go to the teams (by age) on the left hand side and click there. Again, the website is www.haklax.com

Q. What is the coach's contact information?

A.  On the web site or the Team Mom can give you their information.

Q:  How do I find out more about the game of lacrosse?

A:  Your US Lacrosse membership provides you with a subscription to Lacrosse magazine and addresses many questions you may have. Also the website for US Lacrosse  @ www.uslacrosse.org has a wealth of information.

Q:  How do I find information on being a referee?

A:  The website for the Houston area referees is www.swloa.org and you can find out about training dates and costs.

Q:  Will there be more than 1 team for the girls in the future?

A:   We are looking at starting an instructional program for 4-5^th grade girls in addition to the middle school girls program. If we can find coaches

and we have enough participants we may able to have more than one team at the middle school level.

Q:  How can I get training to be a lacrosse coach?

A:   US Lacrosse offers online training courses for coaches. From there you qualify to attend a level 2 training course. We are hoping that

with a Houston chapter of US Lacrosse a training clinic can be offered in our area.

Q: What exactly is Scoop, Pass & Shoot (SP&S)?

A: This is HAKLAX largest fundraising event of the year, and is open to all players (boys and girls).  Each player will rotate through three

stations (Scoop, Pass & Shoot), and the object is to earn as many points as possible, in order to win some great prizes, as well as 'bragging rights'

with their teammates.  In addition, there will be a radar gun station that the players will get a chance to determine the 'fastest shot' in town this year.

Q: When and where is the event planned?

A: Saturday, March 24^th at the KFL fields.  Each team will have a specific time schedule for the event and these schedules will be provided to all

players the week of February 28^th and will be posted on the HAKLAX website: http://www\\haxlax.com.  In addition, there will be team and individual pictures taken this day.  Due to the large number of players & various events planned, it will be critical that everyone is at the field at their specified time in order to keep the day on schedule.

Q:  What does it cost to participate in the SP&S event this year?

A:  We are requesting a minimum donation / pledge of $45 this year, and each player that participates at this level will get a 'cool' SP&S tee-shirt that has been provided by this year's sponsor, 'Power Engineers'.  As everyone knows, we have to rely on contributions to help defray the cost of providing top-notch facilities, coaches and referees for our players, and this event is our most important fundraising activity for the year.  Players can solicit, pledges, for points earned from their friends, family, and neighbors, or simply provide a donation for this fun-filled event.

Q: How do the players win prizes?

A:  There will be several opportunities for the players to win prizes (not to mention �bragging rights�) this year.  For each team, there will be prizes awarded for the most points earned and the fastest shot on goal, and these will be awarded at the event.  In addition, there will be a grand prize awarded to the player (4^th � 6^th, 7^th � 8^th, and the girls) who collects the most $$, and this will be awarded at the year-end party.  Finally, to put a bit of friendly competition between the 7 teams, there will be a Pizza Party prize for the team who has the highest average contribution / participant. 

Q: What can you do to help make this event a huge success?

A:  Encourage your sons and / or daughters to actively participate in this event, and make sure that all the forms (pledge / donation & picture orders) are completed and sent to your respective Team Mom prior to March 24^th.  Also, if you would like to volunteer with the activities in any way, please let your Team Mom know, as without the involvement of many volunteers, we can�t make this event a success.
